Trillium’s Statement Re: Supreme Court Overturning Roe V. Wade

Trillium’s Statement Re: Supreme Court Overturning Roe V. WadeTrillium’s Statement Re: Supreme Court Overturning Roe V. Wade

Dear U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator and Members of Congress,

With the Supreme Court’s announcement today overruling Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey we are deeply saddened and angered. Trillium fears what this means for human rights, the American economy, the state of women in the workplace, and the companies that are inextricably linked to all of those issues.

Supreme Court Overturns Roe V. Wade

With the Supreme Court’s announcement today overruling Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey we are deeply saddened and angered. Trillium fears what this means for human rights, the American economy, the state of women in the workplace, and the companies that are inextricably linked to all of those issues.

Reproductive rights, including access to abortion care, are linked to gender equity, which in turn is a cornerstone for achieving Trillium’s mission of advancing humankind towards a global sustainable economy, a just society, and a better world. This reactionary decision makes us fear for the health and welfare of millions of Americans. This decision has been made possible by a group of justices nominated by a president who took office with the votes of a minority of Americans, and who were confirmed by senators also representing a minority of Americans. According to a Washington Post poll in May, Americans say Roe v. Wade should be upheld rather than overturned by a roughly 2-to-1 margin.

Trillium has a long history in this fight [https://www.trilliuminvest.com/news-views/the-fight-for-reproductive-health-access] and while today is unquestionably a setback for human rights and democracy, Trillium will remain undeterred. We will continue to stand up for reproductive rights in our own human resources policies and practices, at the state and federal levels, and in our dialogues with the companies in which we invest.
